Xconomy Xchange HHS CTO Todd Park and Friends on the Future of Health IT

What is the future of health information technology—and how can the federal government reinvent itself to spur entrepreneurship and innovation in this vital sector? We’ve heard some health IT executives say Uncle Sam can help ensure healthcare goes digital by staying out of the way. But what if the government could find a new way to do business itself, plant the right seeds—and then step aside so entrepreneurs and innovative businesses could take root? That’s the plan advocated by Todd Park, CTO of Health and Human Services. Before joining the government, Park was co-founder of Watertown, MA-based Athenahealth, a driving force in how doctors manage their billing and electronic health records. So he has some ideas on where and how government can make a difference in pushing health care beyond the era of the pen and paper, and into the digital world.

Join us for this rare, intimate evening with Park, who will kick things off with a thought provoking overview of “Government 2.0” and how it can foster innovation around how information is harnessed to improve health. He will then join a power-packed panel of business leaders and entrepreneurs to dissect, discuss, and debate these ideas—and hopefully share and inspire new thoughts about an issue that touches us all.

Participants:
Todd Park, CTO, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
Bob Higgins, Co-founder and General Partner, Highland Capital Partners
Rob Seliger, General Manager, Product Management, Microsoft Health Services Group (founder and former CEO, Sentillion)
